Further develop your self image.
Each of us has an idea of who we are, what we can do, and
how we look. Together, these ideas make up our self-image,
or identity.
I describe to my clients the process of drawing a self-portrait.
Some parts of you might be more prominent in the picture,
they are more known to you in your idea of your self. Other
parts might be fuzzy, incomplete, or completely absent
in your image of yourself. These absent and incomplete
parts keep you from your fullest being.
Our job is to fill in the picture so you have a clearer,
more complete experience of what it means to be you.
If it were easy to change habits, we’d be able to read or hear something
and immediately put it into effect. Instead, most of us read it, ponder it,
and return to our habits.
Movement experiences are a very powerful way to learn new behaviors. By going
deeper than words and thoughts, we get to the essence of change. Feldenkrais
said, “when you know what you are doing, you can do what you want.”
In one-to-one sessions, we’ll begin with a conversation
about your interests, your questions, and your goals. Then,
we’ll have a “get-to-know-you” session
and together we’ll determine your needs.
Once we’ve agreed to work together, we’ll design
a program to suit your needs, whether it’s weekly
for 3-6 months, or every other week for 4-8 months.
The process, while very straight-forward, is subtle and
profound and to be savored if the change is to be fully
incorporated into your self image.
You can expect acceptance. I am your witness, your facilitator
of change, and your fiercest advocate for a full and
potent life.
You can expect to be supported and challenged. To be unchallenged
would be to remain in your habit and waste your valuable
time and resources.
Improvements in physical condition are a very significant
benefit, for some that is enough. But, many others become
curious that the change they experience applies to all
aspects of their lives, from self-image and decision-making,
to changes in viewpoint and personal satisfaction.
There are many other questions
about change and transformation. I’ll be updating this page from time to time and
I invite you to check back for answers to different questions.
